CENTRAL. The Annexx perfectly exemplifies the notion of "comfortably upscale." The space is contemporary and open, with stylish furnishings and a bar that just begs to be lounged in, preferably with a glass of wine. Most of the food is of the American-Continental variety, and everything is skillfully prepared. Standouts include crab cakes with smoked corn mayo and lemon slaw, Wagyu and pig trotter ragout, and truffled black cod with fondant and coconut lobster jus. If you're with a group, be sure to start with one of the appetizer platters ­ seafood, cheeses or cured meats. Twenty-four wines available by the glass or flight.

TSIM SHA TSUI. Located in the Langham Hotel, the Bostonian shares an address with several other locally renowned restaurants and bars. The menu features flavors from the east coast of the US, as well as a wider selection of cuisine. Expect to find dishes ranging from Creole, like blackened chicken, to American beef and lobsters prepared in all ways imaginable. Reservations are suggested, especially at dinner. MTR: Tsim Sha Tsui

CENTRAL. This establishment is particularly popular among the local crowd. The informal atmosphere encourages professionals to gather at the bar and enjoy a few cocktails. The clientele leans toward the trendy side, although the menu and service are more traditional. The interior decor is truly Californian, with bold colors and a bright dining area. Menu selections often change, but recommended items include the hamburgers, the salads, and the vegetarian focaccia sandwiches. Business casual attire (shorts are not allowed). SOHO. Although it's no relation to the well-known Craftsteak restaurants in the US, this is a great take on the American-style steakhouse. You'll find the world's best beef on the menu, from the US, Argentina and Australia, grilled to order over an open flame and served with your choice of eight sauces. A la carte sides range from the traditional (grilled asparagus, garlic mushrooms) to the more unusual (sautéed pea tendrils with crisp garlic). There are also a handful of seafood and vegetarian options.

CENTRAL. Dan Ryan's at Pacific Place is the ideal location for business lunches and pre-dinner drinks. The staff here is friendly and knowledgeable, and the atmosphere is very conducive to both friendly and formal conversation. What separates Dan's from other restaurants in the area is the American-style cuisine: onion rings, ribs, and delicious desserts. There is a sports bar area that tends to fill up quickly after hours.
